Adirondack chairs

A few weeks ago I came across an ad in the paper for Adirondack chairs. No, I wasn't sure how to say it either.

But the chairs looked a whole lot better than they spelled and I was tempted. Looking a bit closer, though, it was obvious that making one would be fun. What's more, I had a shedload of salvaged timber from all over the place, including some tasty mahogany.

A bit of research on the style and I came up with a plan.

Tempting or what ?
The purists argue about the exact style of an Adirondack chair. They turn up their noses at one like mine as it has rear legs rather than apparent levitation, though I am just in the middle of making a levitation one with my daughter.

Everybody hates the arms. I love them. Wide, commodious, forgiving. You can put enough books and drinks on there to last half a sunny day. Sure they look as if the thing is trying to take off, Who cares ?

And this thing is so comfortable. It may not look it, but it really is.

Anyway, I made a couple of mahogany, and then a softwood one for a friend, and now the latest is waiting to be assembled in the shed out back.

Fat arms are fine by me
